question for fans of european soccer

all this press about Beckham being sold to Real Madrid today has me wondering: do european clubs ever "trade" players like american pro sports teams do? or do they just buy and sell them?

There are sometimes trades, but even they usually involve a sum of money on one side.
i.e. Instead of Real paying £25m for Beckham it could have been £10m plus a £15m rated player of theirs.

It is very rare to see a straight trade though.

off topic but Manchester United is going to lose a lot of profit since a lot of Beckham's fans will follow

Soccer.....soccer.....oh FOOTBALL! 😉

Yes, sometimes there are trades although they are rare. You'll sometimes get player+cash deal 'trade' for a player at a bigger club, but the only straight swaps are done by low division teams who don't have the money to spend on transfer fee's.
