Thank you in advance

I still say that 5.1 speakers are better. And I would not buy a LiteON drive, but then I'm not an expert, so my opinion doesn't count.

5.1 (or higher) is good if you can place them well, have multichannel source material, and aren't compromising quality for quantity 😛

Nothing wrong with Lite-On. In fact several Sony drives are rebadged Lite-On. 😛

LoL @ the thread title 😱

I just meant I believed this Sony was a better choice then this particular Lite-On. This dual layer I don't think is a Lite-On either.

With the layout of my L-shaped desk and file cabinet, it works perfectly to put me in the middle. If I ever decide to spread the speaker out, I will need some cable extensions, but I doubt that there is any compromise on quality. The 2.1 speakers that I had on my old computer couldn't hold a squeak to these. I don't know about now, but when I bought these at Walmart, they were very inexpensive.

Wait...so what about the Hard Drive? Any suggestion? Last time I picked up a thread somewhere that linked to a 300Gig Seagate for less than $200. Now I can't find it no more 🙁

As a little off-topic remark before I get on topic, does your name relate to Nissan Skylines? 😱

Oh and, just out of preference, I've had a bit of favor more toward the NEC burners. In most tests I've seen, the brand usually performs the best if not very well. This was noted with their 3500A (I believe that's the model, I know I have one in my mini-atx PC that I took out of this one). I'm currently running a newer NEC burner and I've had no problems so far! I know when I first started looking at DVD burners, I was always recommended to steer clear of their DVD burners, which was odd, because they had rock-solid CD burners. Just passing it on...

The Hard Drive looks alright, that's the 500GB that I was going to buy before I decided to go with the 750GB.

Go with some nice logitech speakers like the nice people linked 🙂.

SkylineRider,

Despite appearances otherwise, you have heard from a couple of experts already. The "lurkers" are not likely to benefit from this thread, any more than any other. It sounds as though you haven't been around forums too long, or you wouldn't display the attitude that you have.

I use this Sony DVD/Burner and they are very nice. 😉

The hard drive is fine.

Sony DVD burners are in fact built by Lite-On and you can usually get Lite-on for much less money. Also lite-On drives allow you to change the book-type on the EEPROM (basically flash the drive to burn every video DVD+R as DVD-Rom)

🙂 Yet another lurker here so my input is worth what you paid for it but I like my X230's ,NEC burner & I'd say the WD's a good drive as well.

I just picked up one of those last week. It's still empty and waiting for me to have some free time to transfer over to it 😛
