For those of you that have done (or given) a few, is it ok to just use the inbuilt mic in a laptop (such as the MB Pro in my sig) or do I need to invest in a proper mic? This is a formal interview not some casual 5 minute talk.

Also headphones or is the speaker ok?

Use the test settings to see how well your mic sounds. Headphones are appropriate and can save a lot of trouble.

Your Macbook should be fine.

When the interview starts, ask the interviewers if you sound OK.
Don't be surprised if you sound fine and they don't sound as good.

Be aware of your surroundings - try to do the interview in a place where you know there are no external sounds.
You don't want your wife coming into the kitchen starting the dishwasher or your kid yelling in the back room he crapped his pants.

You can also mute yourself when you're not talking - just don't forget to unmute yourself.

Test with a friend.

Lol yes it's fine to use the laptop mic. What did you think you had to go buy a radio broadcaster quality mic for an interview?

I've used my phone and also my mbp and never had issues. I personally like to put a headphone in one ear though just so I can hear better.
