Question for ECS K7S5A owners....

When I installed the board and set up I didnt install the AGP VXD driver that comes with the disk. It says to install them before I install a driver for my AGP card. So what in the hell is this about anyhoot?🙂 What does this driver do?

Windows XP had its own drivers for the onboard sound...I didnt install the drivers that came with it...any comments on these sound drivers that came with the board?

I could screw with the drivers and figure it out myself.....but I would rather just ask someone else what they think first🙂

Good question. Don't know if this is technically precise, but I believe it mainly allows the OS to take advantage of the AGP slot's capabilities. So presumably, you may get better performance with the manufacturer's driver. Unfortunately, it ain't always so. In your case, the XP driver may be more recent than the one that came with your board - but it may also be more generic.

I have a K7S5A with Windows 2000 Pro on it, and I installed the drivers that came with it (including audio). Everything seems to work fine, though I can't claim to have performance tested it or anything. I bought it as a marvelously inexpensive way to upgrade one of my guest room PCs from a 400 MHz K6-2 to a 750 MHz Duron. Quite a sweet little improvement for less than $200.

There are new SiS AGP drivers out now, but I have read not to use the SiS IDE drivers (just the AGP).

You can read about it on the ECS Forum/FAQ at: OCWorkbench.

I have been running the ECS K7S5A for about 5 monthes now, I have used a 1ghz athlon-b, 1.4ghz athlon-C, and now use a AthlonXP 1800+ For the entire time I have been using windows XP and I just recently realized (like a week ago) that I never did install any drivers at all for the motherboard, agp or otherwise. I am a hardcore gamer and I watch alot of DVD's on my comp, plus I use the built in NIC, but agian, I never installed any drivers for it. Maybe I am just lucky, but it seems to have worked without any help from me.

I would almost suggest not installing anything and seeing how that works, but again, that is just me

Yeah...I think Ill just leave the drivers alone....but If someone knows of any performance difference with em let me know.
