hello everyone,

i wanted to give a dvd player to my family but their tv is not quite up to date. here are the specs: zenith

so, i assume i will have to get them an rf modulator. will i still be able to let them use my spare component video cables? also will they still be able to use their existing vcr? any advice would be appreciate. thanks in advance :)

RF modulators don't connect with component cables, nor would there be any point as the quality of R/F modulators is horrible. That TV has S-Video, so I don't understand why you wouldnt use that for your DVD player?

thanks for your input, i will be using the s-video input in this case. i beg to differ on your stance about the r/f modulator. my dad happens to watch dvd's on an older generation tv using a modulator and the picture quality is outstanding. there were absolutely no flaws.

Every R/F modulator i've seen is junk, but it depends what tv your watching it on. If your watching an old movie on a 1980's tv, the connectors wouldn't make a difference because it cant produce a quality picture. If your using a newer TV, better cables make a big difference.

Amazingly, my Dad just got a cheapie 19" RCA TV and the picture is crystal clear using the coax connection from the Sony DirecTV box.

That's crazy, my friend has a newer 27in, she hooked it up with coax and it looked HORRIBLE. Not to mention it would only play full screen, even with widescreen movies.
