My dog keeps destroying any toy I buy him in a matter of days... Is this normal? If it is normal, do you guys have any recommendations on a somewhat durable toy?
 
I buy mine plush squeaky toys and just keep buying new ones, though granted it takes him a few months to get one to the point where stuffing is coming out and such. In your case maybe a rubber one or a box of rawhide? If he's a puppy, know that he'll probably calm down with them as he gets a bit older.
 
Hard rubber toys seem to last pretty long with my dog. He doesn't like to gnaw on them like most other things. Rope toys only last a few days before you start finding shreds all over the house.
 
My dog was destroying toys. The only toy that has lasted for about a year is a hard rubber cone shaped kong toy. It is battered a bit but she never destroyed it. I got her to stop being so destructive toward her non-chew toys like a tennis ball by yelling at her when she would just sit there and gnaw on it and praising her when she played with it by chasing it down and playing fetch or batting it and chasing it.
 
Just never leave the dog and the toy alone together. We pick up our dogs toys when we are done playing with her. If not she will take them into a corner and destroy them.

Good tip... I'm definately going to have to buy a kong. I just need something to keep him busy while I'm at work. He isn't destructive with anything but I'm afraid he'll start if I don't keep him occupied with a toy.

Only toys my dog hasn't destroyed is a rubber chicken and this stuffed squirrel from petsmart that cost me like $12. Everything else gets destroyed in several hours
 
I've never had a dog.. but I buy my sister's golden retriever one of these fat cat dog toys for christmas every other year or so and he loves them, and they get pretty disgusting because sometimes he uses them for shovels to dig holes in the back yard but he still has every one of 'em, hasn't managed to kill one yet. mummify 'em, sorta.. but not kill 'em. 🙂

so.. if you're lookin' for a toy that's more like a doll than a rubber rock.. these have held up pretty well in my by-proxy experience.
