Question for Dell lappy owners

Or do you purchase your laptop memory from some where else? Have you had good luck w/ your non-Dell memory? Got any recomendations for brands/suppliers? Thanks,
j

dell buys their stuff from various sources, there is no DELL memory.. dell does not have a manufacturing plant

Crucial
Hynix
Hyundai
Infineon

Those are the memory I seen so far, I mean there are a lot.. they buy whatever is the cheapest as a lot..

i grabbed two 1gb sticks of patriot ddr2-667 ram for my e1505.... it was cheap at the time, so i went for it. they work great.

unless at the time you bought your laptop memory from outside sources were significantly less expensive than Dell's configurator on their website, why do outside of dell? If you get your memory from dell, you know it's covered under their standard 3 year onsite warranty and that's always a good thing.

having said that, we have had to upgrade older dell laptops with crucial memory with no problems.

I'm using the standard 1GB that came in my Dell. But if I were to upgrade it, as I have done so in the past with previous Dell laptops, I would buy it from newegg. I've always bought Patriot for them.

Thanks for the replys guys/gals. I know Dell doesn't make their own stuff, that's why I used " ". I was only wondering b/c I've seen lappy memory for considerably less than what Dell offers it at. And I'm kind of thinking since my lappy is over a year old, the odds of buying more memory from Dell so that it is "matched" are mighty slim. I've got 1g and want another one. Using SolidWorks puts a serious damper on things w/ only 1g.
Is there any little app that can diagnose my current stick of mem to tell me brand and model info? Thanks,
j

the cpuid / cpuz software can tell... anyway.. if you go crucial, it comes with life time warranty.. so buying dell's 3 year warranty isn't that super (for memory only)

Same here. Saved a ton of $$$ this way.

I use Dell memory in mine, but I don't use my laptop for anything intensive so I don't really care.
