Question for Dell 2005FPW users...

I know the Dell 2005FPW has a native resolution of 1680x1050 but I was wondering if it has the option to run games at 1280x1024 without stretching the image to fit the screen or does it simply do this by default? I can't run any games at 1680x1050 probably w/o killing fps ... but still don't want it to force interpolation at a lower res creating a crappy image. Yeah yeah the black bars suck but I'd rather have it that way. Well thanks for any replies.

Yes, if you set the scaling in the monitor's OSD to "1:1" instead of "Fill" or "Aspect", it will do exactly what you're wanting. :)

Some games (SW: Knight of Old Republic) will stretch to fill the entire screen no matter what setting I use. Looks stretched but ok. maybe i wasn't doing it correctly.

Thanks, now I'm just another step closer to buying this monitor. But I also must ask how is the ghosting on this monitor? I am still stuck between getting this and the L90D+ because the Dell has the superior colors but the L90D+ obviously has the better response time. I play CSS on a 19" 25ms PVA panel and it streaks like hell it's almost unplayable, and it's not even a fast game like UT2K4 by any stretch. :p Even when I'm not gaming I use photoshop so I'm sorta leaning slightly on the Dell but would like smooth gaming as well.

Also I heard that the 2005FPW has a 12ms response time on some user reviews is that correct? I thought it was 16ms.

I can see ghosting on my 2005FPW, but it's better than on the 2001FP I'd used before. It's not on par with a CRT for gaming, but then agan I kind of doubt any LCD is yet. It's definitely not too bad - it just really depends on how sensitive you are or how easily you notice ghosting. (For example, my brother claims not to notice any ghosting on the 2001FP at all, so YMMV. I'm probably one of the more sensitive people, if anything - and I'm happy with my monitor.)

Hmm now I think I don't want to get this monitor anymore after hearing problems with the backlighting. I'm hearing horror stories of people getting it replaced about 7 times... on the Dell forums one guy said there is a 1% chance you'll get a perfect one, not good.

Well, if you go LCD you might want to try Dell anyway because of their liberal return policy. I've got the 2001fp and it's got some backlighting. I'm waiting for a replacement to be shipped. I went back and forth between the 2005fpw and 2001fp and decided to go with the latter because I didn't want a 17" monitor for applications that weren't native widescreen.....and I didn't want to be rotating the screen all the time.
