Why do women spend $40 to get pedicure when everybody can easily cut their own toe nails? I always think it's pretty dumb.

A pedicure is a bit more than just getting your nails cut. It's also a "relax and be pampered" thing.

How old are you anyway?

Why is my age relevant?

the same reason they think we are nuts for spending $70 or $200 on a new cpu that does the same thing as the old cpu, but just a little bit faster

it makes them "feel" good

BTW , don't waste your life trying to rationalize women , it is a waste of time (i have been married for 16 years)

Because it's the kind of question someone with little/no female experience would ask.

man thats expensive.. the place i go to gives a manicure and pedicure for $35 total. And, like the others have said, its not just clipping toe nails.. its a whole calves and feet massage as well.

i've never had a pedicure, so i cant say. i wouldnt mind getting one if you want to pay. i'm not big on spending money on myself for those types of things. last summer i did get manicures.. made me feel girly and was an excuse to hang out with my best friend.

because men and women just have different priorities i guess.
you could say the same thing about a guy wanting the latest game and blowing 45$ on it. it gives you pleasure. you enjoy it. thats all.
pedicures are relaxing to most females (and i bet if you tried one, you'd enjoy it too!) and its also time that they are spending on themselves.

oh, I have at least average experience with ladies. it's just that, as someone mentioned above, women are hard to rationalize. no matter how experienced you're.

I've never had a manicure or a pedicure, so I can't tell you. I imagine it's much more than a toenail cutting. Some women seem to spend a lot of money on that sort of thing. I don't go to a spa or have my hair dyed or wear makeup or any of that stuff. My only indulgence is some expensive face cream (it's almost 40 bucks for a little jar), but a jar will last me at least a year, and it's absolutely wonderful stuff, so I bite the bullet once every year or so and get it.

Not any harder than the average guy. You think women understand WTF many of you would sooner piss in your own pants than put down the XBox controller? Both genders are perfectly capable of seemingly-irrational behavior.

I do somewhat agree to that, but women.. geez, get upset at the stupidest things! :p (at least mine does)

Ok well let me try and rationalize the behavior then (from a male perspective).

I'm sure part of it is simply the act of being pampered but I am willing to guess there would be another aspect as well. Just like you can cut your hair at home, going to a salon will get you a much better haircut. Likewise going for a pedicure or whatever will most likely be much better than simply clipping your toenails while sitting on the toilet with 1 foot over the trashcan. I would think those places also remove dead skin (cuticles?) from around the nail which must take some time.

i understand my wife enough to know she does wacky stuff just like i do wacky stuff

men and women are different, you don't have to understand why, but knowing that they are different helps

I've never spent $40 on a pedicure. Although I've heard it's very relaxing, and the foot massage is blissful. *shrugs*

Have you ever had a shave at a real barber shop? It's a comparable experience to a woman getting her toes done up... sure you can do it yourself, but it's so much better when someone else does it.
