I have been searching for some online resource for the electrical building code for Texas, but I can't find anything. We got our keys to our new place (renting) yesterday, and the place is messed up. One of my main concerns is the electrical side of the town house. There is no locking or closing mechanism on the door to the breaker box--just a small wood door. When you open that, you can see everything--there is no face plate like a new breaker box would have. Also, they have blank spots with no breakers installed--your hand could slip off of one of the breakers and go into this "hole", and easily hit the hot and neutral bars. That's not anywhere near safe for me or my wife, let alone any kids we might have in the house (no we don't have kids right now).
Also, the AC on the bottom level has exposed wiring (copper, not insulated wiring), and the damn fire extinguisher in that very closed is a dry chemical extinguisher that isn't properly filled.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but any information where I might be able to find something would be helpful. Or just the proper term to google would be fine, as I can't seem to find anything, and I would to have as much firepower to resolve this soon as I can get.
EDIT: Pics of said breaker box
