Question for anyone who works at Best Buy

So I go to Best Buy at lunch today and pick up a few items, then I walk by their 50% off cart that they have sitting in the middle of the store. They have a couple of WiFiMax PS2 wireless adapters for 50% off of the $80 price, making it $40. Also, there's a sticker on the adapter box saying that if I buy it, I will get an instant $20 gift card, which is pretty cool. So I haul it up front, and am told that I can't get the $20 gift card because that was on the box before it was marked down 50%. So I ask for a manager. Manager comes up, a complete douche in every sense of the word, and tells me it's either one or the other, either I take the 50% off or I take the $20 gift card, and that's their policy. This, after I talked to at least 3 other people in the store who never mentioned this policy, just told me I couldn't get the gift card. So I'm pretty sure he just made that up.

Any BB emplyees who can tell me without towing the company line if that's an actual policy or if he was just making it up as he went along? I already filed a complaint against him because he was an asshat about the situation anyway, but I'd like to know. I might go back and pick up the wi-fi adapter anyway, since it's a pretty good deal, but I was just curious if anyone has the official word.

Thanks.

Sounds like he was just an a$$hole.

Has anyone ever had a pleasant experience at Best Buy? I don't know why everyone flocks there on Saturday afternoon anymore; I mean, they don't offer the cheapest prices around anymore. Their prices are just the same everywhere else.

And OP, if you had a bad experience there, simply don't shop at Best Buy anymore. They have competitors and it's your money. Use it wisely. I hope you didnt purchase the item.

They reserve the right to deny business to anyone at their discretion. If you don't like the policy or price, move on, there's no point feeling entitled to a good deal.

I don't mean to be an ass by that, but I'm just stating that they don't have to give you a product at the marked price, they don't even have to sell you a product.

Heheh... are you surprised?
My friend just went there the other day to see if they had any car stereos with RCA in. Long story short, they were unable to help him, other than looking at the same stereos he'd already looked at, and telling him that they have RCA outs. He decided to leave once the guy told him they had a connector that would turn an RCA output into an input.

I just shot iced tea out of my nose, thanks!

That is standard procedures at many stores.

The person that tossed the imtem in the discount bin did not bother to remove the extra discouint sticker.

Yup. And the manager could have let it go, it's not like it was an expensive item that would have hurt his bottom line. Sometimes a little good will goes a long way.

Eh, I've been screwed at Best Buy enough times to realize they have no good will in them.

I used to go there literally like 2-3 times a week and always walk out with something, a DVD or a game, something. Today was the first time I've been there in probably 2 months. Hopefully it'll be the last.

True, but I wouldn't have expected the store to do so. I've been in plenty of other places where similar incidents happened, and the worker or manager (politely) informed me that there was a mistake, and only XX discount could be offered.

Sounds right to me... rarely does a company give you two specials on an item unless they're considered price mark-downs (i.e. 50% off then marked down another 20%).
