Protozoans are described as single celled animals. Explained what functions must occur within the protozoan in order for it to have this classification.

thanks.

Look at the difference in cell "walls" of animal and plant cells. One of the big differences. Oh, and that photosynthesis thing. How hard could this be to find in any basic bio book, let alone Google?

The protozoan must subsist on a diet entirely of protein and fat, and must avoid carbohydrates at all costs. Except fiber and sugar alcohols, which are okay because they do not affect blood sugar levels.

1. protozoan (protozoa)
Definition:

Single-celled, animal-like, eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Protista. Protozoans can occur wherever moisture exists. There are many parasites and commensals of plants and animals, as well as free-living species. They cause a number of diseases, such as African sleeping sickness, malaria, and dysentery. They are an economically and scientifically important group. It is thought that the organisms of the kingdom Animalia evolved from ancestors which were protozoans.

from here

Basically they're eukaryotic (nucleus) differentiating them from prokaryotes (no nucleus). Also, they're NOT plants...so no photosynthesis. They would rely on the Kreb's Cycle (or maybe just anerobic respiration?) instead of the Calvin-Benson Cylce for ATP Synthesis IIRC.

Protozoa

A collective term for unicellular eukaryotes* lacking cell walls. Previously considered as a separate phylum, protozoans are often now classified along with algae and other simple unicellular eukaryotes in the kingdom Protista* .

...okay I'm done...

Classification within the kingdom Protista is a mess. It's best to keep a healthy distance :p
