If i am a student in alberta, I know I am allowed to write off my textbooks, but am I also allowed to write of the 'mandatory' external harddrive and the 'highly reccommended' laptop as well?

IIRC you cannot deduct your textbooks unless you are doing a correspondence course and the textbooks are included in the course fee.

DAMMIT!!

I want to write off more, but I dont have more to write off...I wish there was a guide that lays out what you can and cannot write off...

I'm sure you can write off education expenses, I'm 90% sure my text books have been written off, as well as my laptop.

Contact your registrars office (or your university accounting department, I'm sure they could tell you).
