I am looking at upgrading from my 2005FPW to the 2407FPW but know that my X1900XTX will have trouble running some games at the higher native resolution with AA and AS.

My games currently do fine at 1680x1050 and since the 2407FPW is the same 16:10 aspect ratio, I was hoping to be to continue to run at this lower resolution. Does the 2407 support this and is the resolution interpolation acceptable?

I have a 2405 instead of 2407 but I guess I could answer your questions. You won't have a problem with the resolution (1680x1050) with X1900 / 2407. 1920x1200 is tough for every other video cards except 8800 GTX. It highly depends on individuals and game titles. But thankfully the difference between 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 on this monitor isn't too terrible. On some games it's hard to tell unless you switch back and forth to see the difference.

Depending on drivers, your X1900 may support many other resolutions (like 1440x900, 1600x1024, 1200x800, etc.) so you can experiment to find out what suits you best.

That sounds good. I really want to upgrade to the new monitor but didn't want to have to upgrade video cards at this time too.

I've only seen the 2405, not the 2407, but the scaling is decent. You lose some sharpness, but for most games it won't impact the playability.

You can also run 1600x1200 pillarboxed (so no scaling, but black bars on the left and right). This is somewhat less demanding than 1920x1200, and it helpful for older games that don't properly support widescreen resolutions. Or you can run 1680x1050 with black bars on all sides, but it seems like sort of a waste. :p

I've scaled to all kinds of resolutions on my 2407 (playing some emulators and whatnot) and I have always liked the scalability.

I have discovered that as long as it is a supported widescreen resolution, it looks great overall. If it is not a widescreen resolution, things are not quite as great (FOV, etc.), though still ok and somewhat fixable in other ways.

Cheers,
KT

i have a x1900xt clocked to a 1900xtx with a 2407wfp. I can play Counter strike source fine @ 1900x1200 max AA and HDA. fear has some issues (low fps). The games look good with minimal ghosting. I assume you are going to get the A03 version which has a lower issue with colour banding.

if you have any questions you can pm me

when I was using an x1900 xt 512 meg with the 2407 I opted to lower the visual quality versus the resolution.... I really didnt have to do too much reducing either to make most games playable. I went from a 2005fpw to a 2407wfp

Thanks for all the info. I am satisfied that the monitor with work with the 1680x1050 res and it will have at least acceptable image quality.

Thanks again
