my bro has a powerbook G4 and he has a .avi movie he is trying to copy onto a cd. his laptop has a cd burner, but what exactly do we have to do to copy/burn that movie onto a cd? (its like 300mb so it'll fit)

If you just want to burn it to a CD for storage (as an avi), just put a blank CD in the drive and drag the file to the CD.

If he's using 10.2 or later, just put in a blank CD and drag the file to it, and then eject it. It'll burn the data before ejecting.

If you put a blank CD in the drive, it will mount it and create an icon on the desktop.

You can drag the file to that icon.

This is all assuming you are using OS X.

update: ok is this CD supposed to be detected by my windows PC now? or do I have to do something else to it for my PC to detect the CD/movie.

i stuck it in my pc cd drive but its not detecting it

You shouldn't have to do anything to have a PC recognize it. I have burned tons of CDs on a Mac and have never had to do anything special in OS X so a PC could read it.

OT: I thought I wanted a Mac after oogling over the G5 wih the 30inch display at the Apple Sotre, but now I'm not too sure. I was playing around with a G4 at school today, and rather just get a nice 26inch PC for my homebuilt rig.

Dude, get a Mac if you want a completely troublefree computer and want awesome gaming performance. Dual G5's are the most powerful supercomputers in the world. Think about what you could do with 8GB memory....

I am a huge Mac proponent, but I wouldn't (and didn't) buy one for gaming.

*snort* Ease up on the hype there, sparky. While I have a Powerbook and enjoy Macs, when it comes to gaming, they're nothing compared to PCs, if for no other reason than there is a dearth of games available.

ok so back on topic, just double checked and the movie is in a .dv file format.. how can I convert it to say .avi or sumthing? could that be the reason why the PCs not detecting it?
