Hey, so I'm preparing another demonstration of an application of mine, and I'd like to overlay some text onto the video as a way of telling the user what is happening (think video tutorial of sorts).

What programs can I use to do this to an AVI file? Sound forge and adobe audition don't seem to support this... or do they?

Thanks!

You might have to get a 3rd party plugin to do it, although the subtitle plugin might work.

What program did you use to make the video? All video editors can add overlay onto video.

I use Pinnacle Studio... I capture the video onto the hard drive from my camcorder and it saves it as an AVI file. Then I can edit it, add titles and graphics, then save it to a movie file or burn it to a DVD.

Or you can import an AVI file you already have. Consumer video editing apps can handle that. Pinnacle Studio, ULead VideoStudio, Sony Vegas Movie Studio and others are complete video editing packages. They are each about $99, and you can do so much with them.

Macromedia Flash trial version. Will import and export avi files. Add whatever, whenever, you like.
