Hopefully you already read my question in the thread. If not, here it is again.

I am considering moving my 8x dvd burner out of my spare computer and into a USB 2.0 external enclosure. This one from Newegg to be exact.

Anyway. I'm concerned that the USB2.0 interface may not be fast enough to prevent buffer problems. Has anyone else done this, and do you have any problems?

I know heat is a big issue with these enclosures. The one I've chosen appears to have good reviews. I'm more worried about the interface being fast enough.

Oh, and at the moment I am still using up some 2x media, but will eventually be using 4x and maybe 8x media if I can get it cheap enough... :)

Thanks.

I'm using a cheap cd burner on USB2 with no problems. Yesterday I ordered the Plextor PX-708UF. I'll let you know how it works when I get it.

I use my AO6 4X in 1 external case with no problems and no worries as USB Hi-Speed has much larger bandwirh than ATAPI

USB2.0 is for mice and keyboards :) Actually, it *should* be fine. A better buy would be a firewire case, because if you use it for a hard drive down the road, you'll find they are significantly faster than USB enclosures.

I was just about to ask if firewire was really faster than USB, but figured I'd do a google first before I make myself look like an idiot.

You are correct, firewire is faster than USB2.0: link.
