Question: Does a dead cpu get warm?

There is no post. I can't tell if the mb is dead or the cpu is. I know the cpu does get a little warm when I start the system. I don't have another mb to test to see if the cpu is ok, and I don't have a second cpu to see if the mb is working. How can I figure it out? The power supply is fine and the memory works too.

depends on how dead they are. Most of the time, electricity is still flowing, and the friction of the electrons (even if they aren't powering anything) are still going to create some heat.

depending on what's dead or dying they can get real hot!!! if u smell anything like cooked pcb then unplug the thing immediately...
