Question concerning Gateway motherboard

I know that the motherboard in my friends gateway is a Intel Integrated 440BX Slot 1 ATX. If he went out and bought a new ATX motherboard it should work fine in the gateway case with everything else right? Thx
 
the motherboard should fit fine, yes. what cpu does he currently have? would he also be upgrading the cpu?

i've upgraded a few gateway and dell atx cases. the mobo's fit, but yes, you may need to do some modding of the connectors to get the switches and led's to work.
 
I've never had a gateway but many retail computer vendors don't use ATX cases.... makes upgrading harder.
