i have an inverter that powers 2 ccfl rings but it's not marked or anything. i want to buy a replacement. i looked at ccfl tubes at svc.com and some of the inverters have a output of 600v and some are 500 or so. how do i test the output of the one i have so i can find a match? is the 600v ac or dc? i have a multimeter but don't know what setting to use and don't want to f0ck anything up.

first make sure your multimeter can measure that range, then just stick the wirs on either end of a CFL. double that for 2 CFLs

and it is DC voltage
