Question: Buy now or wait for new motherboards?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the market to buy a KT266A-based motherboard. It seems as if no one agrees on which motherboards are actually good since each seems to have their individual problems. Do you think it's smart to wait for some newer more robust solutions or just to buy one now? I've been looking at the MSI board because it has USB 2.0 but I'm not really going to use it right now. I just thought that having USB 2 would be nice when devices begin to appear on the market without having to deal with buying an add-on card. Ideally, I'd like a motherboard with at least 3 DDR266 slots, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, 100baseT NIC, UDMA100(or 133) controller (don't need RAID). Is anyone aware of a motherboard anything like this coming out in the near future?

Thanks,

Nick

That my friend will have to be decided by yourself. There's always going to be some better down the road. The KT266A are the fastest currently shipping boards. Their unique problems notwithstanding, they all perform pretty much the same. None of the currently shipping boards have everything you want nor is there really a market for it at this time, especially firewire and USB 2.0 on the same board.

The 8KHA+ seems to perform well at a budget price. Buy one of those and if you need something better later, you wouldn't have sunk a lot of money into it.
