Two questions
1. Will the SLK 800 run well with a YS Tech TMD Fan?
2. Will it perform much better than my Volcano 7 with a TMD Fan?

Thx!

1. If you're asking about the YS tech speed control fan from SVC.com, then Yes, it will.

2. I would take an SLK-800 over a V7+ any day. You will see a somewhat noticeable difference in temperatures.

actually i was talking about the TMD fan.. it's not speed control, it's a 70mm fan that has the magnets on the outside casing of the fan. It's there one.

Get a 80mm Panaflo "High" with the SLK-800.Its a real quite setup and cools really well too.I really don't know too much about the TMD fans.

I have finally decided to go with the SLK-800 and am still debating on a fan myself. I heard that the panaflo is a great fan but not designed for chip cooling??? is that so? It said it is more of a case cooler.
Let me know because it is either the panaflo or the YS-Tech for me
Thanks

It works great for CPU cooling and thats what a lot of people use and its a great match with the SLK800.The only thing is the Panaflo High and Low that I know don't have fan monitoring.Meaning it won't show how fast its spinning in the bios, will read 0.If you want quiteness with good cooling the Panaflo is the way to go.Get the 80mm Panaflo "High" with the 3pin connector. Some come bare wires or with the molex (4 pin to power supply). Its all a matter of preference but if you read around here a lot of the experience guys use the Panaflo.

You might also want to look into the Swiftech MCX462+ AMD s462 Heatsink or Swiftech MCX462-U Universal s462/423/478 Heatsink. These are also excellent heatsinks for AMD.Some people like the TMD fan and think its not noisy and works well with the Swiftech. It was packed in with the heatsink before ,but not sure now. Some places still have old stock with the fan included.I seen it with the Swiftech MCX4000 for Pentium 4 setup. You got go wrong with th SLK800 either.I owned one and was great. As for a fan its up to you to decide.

I got an SLK-800A last week with a YS Tech 80mm fan with speed control. I was trying to figure out which fan to get, and settled on this because I didn't know how well my XP1700+ was going to overclock and how cool it was going to run. So far it runs with a tiny voltage boost at 2GHz (trued clock, 166FSB) and runs fairly cool with the speed control set to just past half-way. I don't have a TMD fan, but it should work better than the Volcano 7 with a TMD fan. BTW, did you mean a Volcano 7+ instead of the regular 7? The 7 uses an 80mm fan while the 7+ uses 70mm, and the TMD fans are 70mm. Either way, the SLK-800 heatsink should be better because it has more surface area than the 7+ plus I think that air doesn't flow through the 7+ easily because it has curved fins from the skivving process and the fins are closer together (IMO).

Actually... i mounted it on a Volcano 7! not a 7+ :) I konw it's not designed to.. but if you take the nice lil THermaltake metal shroud off and mount it directly to the heatsink, it fits like a glove (i mean wow :)) I changed it up and it performed a few degrees better although not too much (maybe 2-3) but today i mounted a 92mm Panaflo (does about 47-55 CFM... dunno which model, the 1A?) and it's 6-7 degrees cooler now :) Gotta say nice and quiet thx to the 92mm and cools very nicely.

You have one of these two Panaflo 92mm "LOW" 42.7cfm 27dba L1A Fan or Panaflo 92mm "HIGH" 56.8cfm 35dba H1A Fan.Excellent fans and for the amount of CFM it pushes its still fairly quite too:).The 6-7 you dropped is quite a bit.Glad it worked out for yeah. Now if you get a better heatsink it will drop some more.;).Did you drop 6-7 Celsius or Farenhiet ?.

6-7 Celsius! lol... big drop there =D I have no idea whether its the low or the high, because it just say 1a.... lol! i was looking for the L or the H, doesn't know. I can't measure the RPM though because i dun have the proper output (all it comes w/ is bare end 2 wire outputs... doh!)

Yeah they come bare wire but you can get the 3pin or 4 pin molex connector for it.When I bought mine online it had the option to get the 3 pin or 4 pin molex for extra money depending what your using it for or it comes with bare wires.I got the 3 pin since I use it for the CPU header.I have 4 L1A 80mm Panaflos case fans also hooked up,real quite too.The bare wire is good to hook up to a rheobus. Its a bummer their optional.Your in Ontario,so am I.:) www.bigfootcomputers.com in Toronto sells lots of fans Panaflo and connectors and cooling stuff and there is a forum there too.Check it out.

I'm also using a Panaflo H1A on my SLK800a with great results. It's a good combination!

I bought my Panaflo off a family friend who ordered their parts from Newegg and shipped it to their aunts in the states, then on vacation and picked it up. Only problem was they sent them 92mm's instead of 80mm's, so i bought one off of him for $15. Was using it in my Antec SX1200, but then decided to side mount it on my SLK 800 =D only problem was i had to cut off the top corner (well drill holes then bend off) cuz it was so big wouldn't mount properly :D amazing fan.. quiet and moves tons of air.

i am kinda annoyed that i can't go to 2.2ghz even at 1.75 volts :( DOH!

Your ok to run 1.85V with your AMD.Thats pretty safe, but don't go more than that.Lot of people are around there enev a little more, but they are taking a chance.Did you put the 92mm fan on the SLK800?.

Yep! 92mm fan right on! I should take a pic and post it... really had to beat the sides down :) SHould i try 1.85v? it ran really really hot on my Volcano 7 w/ 1.85v, and I've heard of P4's crapping out @ 1.85v and above, but I'm not sure about T-Bred B's.

The AMD's are ok at 1.85V .Use Arctic silver 3 on the cpu.The slk-800 doesn't support 92mm fans. The new SLK-900 does. You would be fine also with the Panaflo 80mm "HIGH" fan on the SLK-800.Thats what I was using before I switched to Intel. Its a great combination. Is your fan mounted blowing down on the CPU?.Maybe you should go with the 80mm Panaflo "HIGH" since the 92mm is probably spreading the heatsink apart since it doesn't support it.You can keep it as a spare when you can a heatsink that can fit a 92mm.

I have it mounted corner to corner instead of the long side :) It works pretty good and pretty quiet. It's mounted down blowing on the heatsink, and it's pretty good. I dun feel like spending $35 on a fan, when i just spend $80 for the heatsink (my CPU was only $90!!). These are all CDN prices btw :)

I am in Canada too.Thats a bummer your at 2.1 with 1.65V and with extra voltage can't hit 2.2 .I found certain multipliers worked better than others. You might want to try that. What do your have a 1700+ Thoroughbred and what mobo?.

Well, i'm at 10.5x200 right now. I'm trying 11x200 and i can't do 2.2 even at 1.85 volts. Dunno what else i should do. My motherboard is MSI K7N2-L.

Just have to be happy where you are.You should do a search on your mobo.I thought I read someone complain about the mulipliers not working properly or some other stuff with that board.Being at 1.65V and still having room to play with voltage that CPU should go a little higher.

That's what im' thinking! Maybe it's the 11x multiplier (which is odd considering it's the default multiplier). I've been reading up on the K7N2-L all over the place and haven't heard that problem, although i know 13x multiplier doesn't work (sets it back to 5).
