Question between 2 cpu's

Alright, im helping a friend buy a laptop who does nothing but surf the web, check email on aol, and write papers ..... and watch the occasional movie - nothing fancy - never plays any games.

Im pretty sure the dell e15's are the best way to go because this persons budget is between 700-1000.

Now dell is only offering the e15 single cores at 1.66ghz which would cost $750. For basically $130 more I could upgrade it to the dual core 1.66Ghz cpu. My question is would a laptop see much of a performance benifit of the same speed but dual core cpu? And would it be worth the extra money for what this person wants to do with it? They also want to keep the laptop for atleast 3 years minimum. Im not too familiar with the yonah performance at these low speeds so i dont know if 1.6ghz is actually faster than it sounds.

thanks for any info

You may also want to consider the E1405.

The dual core would be good if they tend to run a lot of things at once, but from what it sounds like, the single core may be fine for your friend's needs.

IBM is suppose to have some new ultra low power single core CPU's. It is all about the Heat the Processor Makes and the power it consumes and the battery usage the person wants. A larger screen may be a plus.

Or a minus, depending on how mobile he wants to go.
