Question before I go to bed: Does anyone else here shave with a straight razor?

I do, mainly because of the coolness/antique factor.

I use a Devo pearl handle stainless straight razor, and a red russian leather strop. Most people have never seen/seen someone use one anymore. I get a better shave, with less nicks and irritation with a straight than a good disposable/electric razor.

I use Colonel Conk shave soap with a badger hair brush. It takes a little longer than with a disposable, but the hygene factor more than makes up for it.

Anyone else shave with one? Occasionally or daily?

I have a NICE setup, and it cost me $220 shipped. I bought quality.

You can get cheaper though, or opposite. Stay away from REALLY cheap stuff.

I can help you pick stuff if you need

Whose got time to fiddle around with straight blades nowadays? :)
That's why electrics were invented!

too rich for my blood. Im 15 and I dont want to pay for it(kinda hard justifying that kinda purchace) and i doubt that my parents would pay for it, unless it was for christmas or something, but there also, I have better stuff to get :)
Oh well, just gonna have to wait until I make some more money.
A mach 3 works just fine for me ;)
BTW: I grow enough facial hair to justify shaving daily, but, I shave every couple of days to get that scraggly look. The girls love it ;)

Mach3, just as effective and I don't have to worry about cutting my head off when I'm half-asleep in the morning... :)

Noperz, electric razor here. My skins too sensitive to use anything where shaving cream is needed.

When i'm w/o my electric I have to use soap as shaving cream.:disgust:

My Dad still swears by his straight razor, although I think he got more pleasure out of threatening to whip the crap out of us ( all 3 kids) with that razor strap. :Q

Anyone that uses a straight razor will tell ya...

"Nothing beats a straight razor"

I keep an electric and a mach 3 & disposables around for the quick shave or when traveling , but I use my SR more than anything. The only nicks I've ever had were like really small paper cuts that did not even hurt. It takes a little more concentration vs a disposable, but you have alot more control. You can control angle of cut, pressure, plus get in places a disposable has a hard time (under your nose)

Plus, most shaving creams have chemicals in them that try to simulate what a brush does, and thats set up the wiskers. You will find much better results if you use a brush and shave soap vs. cream, even if you use a disposable razor and not a straight. Plus you get the added bonus of a HOT shave. Not that cold goo in a can.

veryape, try a brush and a good shave soap like Colonel Conk. You are probably allergic to either the dyes, softeners, stabilizers, or setting agents, all of which are fairly harsh, and shave soap lacks all of these.

hmmm...I use a straight razor simply because my dad taught me to shave with a straight...everything from whipping up the soap from the bottom of that little cup to usin the blade. Works for me. He bought me the razor I still use today...it's all stainless steel, handle and everythin...prolly didn't cost all that much, but I like it. Findin the friggin soap took forever the first time I had to buy it at college tho(regular soap just doesn't cut as well IMO).

I have a beard, but I use a Norelco triple-header to shave my neck and cheeks. Every time I try to use a straight razor, I end up cutting myself:eek: -kd5-

I thought Mr Beard was the one without the beard?

EDIT: Yep. Frank Beard is the beardless drummer. How ironic is that?

I like the idea of doing that.
But I don't want a straight razor that close to my throat.
