Question: Ati HDTV Component Adapter (9500)

I have an HDTV and I plan on using the component adapter with my 9500NP. The TV is a Zenith Direct View 32'' HDTV.

The TV can only handle 2 resolutions in DTV, 480p and 1080i. If I were to use the component adapter, could I output my 1024x1280 resolution with upscaling to the HDTV? Or will I be required to run 1080x1290 to get a valid output? The specifics on ATI's website is very unclear on this certain point. I want to make sure the component adapter will upscale resolutions or at least position them properly in the middle of the screen.

I'm hoping to be able to play games in HDTV using 1024x1280 resolutions since most games don't support widescreen anyway. Someone with first-hand experience with this could help me A LOT! Thanks in advance.
