yeah that's high. My GF would be calling her doctor right now if it was that high. Is it on an upward trend? or going down?

That sounds really high, but shouldn't the doctors be watching that since she is diabetic and on a lot of meds? Did they warn you about this or tell you if this may be an artifact from the medications?

That's a pretty dangerous level, and yes, she should be contacting her doctor. High sugar levels like that can lead to all sorts of problems, long and short term. They need to be kept under control, or she'll end up with very serious problems (like losing limbs or eyesight, or worse).

Your sig suggests you are a Canadian...therefore using the CDA units.

My normal range, defined by the CDA in mmol/L, is 4-7. High is >12. If hers is actually 442 - then call her doctor immediately.

get her to the emergency room immediately, I'm surpised she has'nt passed out with a glucose level that high. If it goes up much further it could be fatal.

Ya, I'd say that's high.

On a recent blood test, all of my tests came back normal except for one............Blood Sugar.

They showed the range like 65-99 and mine was 101.

Now, obviously the doc said "no biggie", but I thought that was kinda' wierd. I couldn't believe 101 was considered "out of range"........(if only technically).

A buddy at work learned he had diabetes when his was at 350. He's since been below 200 and keeps it around there.

Do you have any minor emergency centers there? I'd take her there pronto.

Get to the ER! This could turn into a complex medical condition - diabetic ketoacidosis which might lead to a coma.

Pussies, I've seen 800+mg/dl

And it's not life threatening unless it stays high for quite some time.

Sigh...

Ive seen 1400, but that was drawn off a TPN line.

What drugs is she taking for preop that would jack her sugars that high if she's not diabetic? Massive steroids?

While that sugar in itself, probably isn't immediately dangerous - it may be a sign that there is a significant illness brewing up, or that the medications she is on are not suiting her.

A sugar that high will certainly be causing her inconvenient and unpleasant symptoms - thirst, need to go to the bathroom loads, blurred vision, etc. She should be seen by a doctor soon who will be able to advise on what to do.

While I don't want to speculate on why this has happened - a common cause is high dose steroid medication, which can cause temporary diabetes while they are being taken. If this is the cause, then some diabetes medication may be needed until the steroids are stopped.

It went down by the time we got to the Doctors and she was watched overnight. Yes, she is on high dose steroid meds right now, so that would be the reason. Its back down to 140, shes sleeping now, thanks guys.
