Need to build a comp for my parents (in their 60's), who do nothing but email, web surf, and use productivity suites such as word and quicken, and store photos. I came up with this and am open to suggestions if there are any. Need to stay around $500. Everything I have listed is from Newegg, no microcenter or frys near me.
-LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM $19
-Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $59
-Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $39
-ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AM3 AMD 780L Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $69 +$10 rebate
-AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor ADX640WFGMBOX $99
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL $49
-Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power ... $39 + $15 rebate
-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM $99
Total with tax+shipping=$526 ($501 after rebate!). I substituted a dual core setup vs the quad and saved about $40, so it wasnt worth it to me for the long run.
