Question about Zone-CLV and data life on CD-RW's

I just upgraded to a Lite-on 24x10x32 from an Acer 16x10x32. On the Acer, when the Zone-CLV zone changed, the "color" of the CD changed also. I just assumed that this was because the speed was changing, but the laser power wasn't, considering how many other problems the Acer drive had. The problem is that my brand new Lite-on does the exact same thing. I was wondering what effect that this would have on data life, because if the difference between the zones is great enough to be easily detectable by the eye, I would assume one of the three zones is being burned at a laser power that is pretty far from optimal.

BTW, If anyone in here has a Plextor that uses Zone-CLV, do you get these different color "zones" too?
