Question about your video card temperatures

Dangerer

Basically now that it's summer, this thing has been sitting idle at 67c using the NVIDIA temperature readout. I was wondering how bad this is to be running the card that hot while idling. Also, I've applied AS5 to the core of the GPU (numerous times I might add)

My temps soar to around 104c when playing games such as chaos theory and oblivion.

I would think that 67C idle is probably close to what it should be during this weather, but 104C seems a bit high.. don't they usually get like 10-20C warmer when loaded? I know my 6800 is kind of like that.

HOLY SHIZ! 104C is flaming hot! Danger! Danger!

You have to be doing something wrong. Remember to tighten the cooler correctly on reinstall, only place a little AS5 on the gpu -- wipe off the excess. Also, make sure you have at least a couple of fans -- on sucking in cool air one blowing out hot air. If it was that hot when you first got it, it might be defective.

I wouldn't doubt that it needs some technical help, maybe the thermal paste/adhesive was doing it's job propery? not enough ventilation?

I wouldn't be worried at all. My 7800GTX used to be idling at 71C and working at over 100C. Note the fail safe temperature is about 120C by default according to the NV panel. Guess it's normal. OFC you could buy a better HSF to get into a lower temp region but, unless it's artifacting and/or freezing on you I wouldn't give much thought to it.
