I was just wondering about the x850xtpe's 2 slot cooling solution does this mean it takes up the pci express slot + 1 pci slots or pci-e + 2x pci slots?

Oh yes... I am also a new member here, hopefully I can contribute to the intelligence of this forum :D

Well it depends on what slot you have next to your x16 one. On some boards there's a PCI, on others a PCI-e.

Er, just read what you said. It will take up only the next slot adjacent to it, so it only takes up 1. Whats nice is that it exhausts the air out of the case and the fan is covered, so unlike a 6800 Ultra that would, IMO take up the next two slots, it doesn't need extra breathing room.

Welcome to the forums, and hopefully you'll be a great addition.

wow, thanks for the replay :D and yes this should be a viable option..

im only 16 and building a computer from scratch

my current motherboard is a dfi nf4-ultra d

it should be adjacent with the pci-e x16 slot next to it.

thanks for your replay and welcoming to the forums

also i am thinking of getting a x800xl~ and modding the cooling with one of those zalman heatsinks and the zalman fan~

I wonder how that would fair hehe

Thats gonna be a slick system when you get it up and running (I'll be building a similar one this next weekend).

zakee thats a nice rig too.

I only just got into computers very much in the early 2004. At the time I didn't have too much knowledge and didn't get the best of components (not so great Raidmax case with crappy PSU, not so good MSI board, P4 2.4B, 512 of Geil RAM, early Maxtor SATA drive). I've learned so much from Anandtech that its always nice when I can return the help I've recieved.

thanks, i know its pretty sweet isnt it :D
yeah same, when i bought mine (this christmas) i opted for some sharty geil ram that was ment for P4's, really sucks for my system but oh well. i figure its not worth spending another $250 on ram just for a tiny performance increase.
