Is Professional worth the extra $50? I'd be using it on my laptop, nothing real heavy duty or complex. Any thoughts?

Pro comes with about 10 or so features that you may or may not use, I can't find the list anymore... I'd go with pro, Home is kinda the light version of it...

I have Professional on my desktop (got the version for free through my university's MSAA last year; but I don't really use any of the admin tools on my laptop.

Win-XP Professional does have the embedded BBS Macro Suite that can you give you "One Button Access" to the "Rolling Eyes" Emotion here on Anandtech. I notice those are about half of your posts, so it should come in quite handy for you.

And what's with the emoticon? You asked for the difference between OS's, I gave you a link to it. It ain't my fault if you can't figure it out.

It was a "shamed" face because I didn't look for it, even though I should've thought of it. Went with a guaranteed copy of XP Pro that I found in my room.

the two main differences are

Pro supports multiple processors (not an issue on a laptop)
Pro allows you to connect to a domain (if its used only at home/not on a domain, then you don't need that feature)
