I only wanted to install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP because it includes all previous updates and fixes for Windows XP. I never wanted it because of the super extra security features it has. Don't get me wrong. Security is important to me, however, adding too much security is just not necessary as long as you have a hardware firewall, up to date AV program, and keep up to date security patches and are careful with what you do. I mean all the overzlealous security implemented in XP SP2 is just way too strict and prevents you from doing many things and I've even noticed slower performance with SP2. I would have so much preferred had XP SP2 been an update that just includes are previous security updates, driver updates, and bug fixes just like SP4 was for Windows 2000. But I guess with all the security exploits in the past year or so, MS needed to make something dummy proof for users who don't keep their systems up to date with the latest AV defs and security patches. Is there anyway I can tweak Windows XP SP2 so it's more like an upgrade to Windows XP SP2 as SP4 was to Windows 2000 and doesn't conatin all the overly restrictive security features? And another question. I notice when I search the MS security bulletin, there are several security patches for Windows XP SP1 released in October and when I go to them, it says that Windows XP SP2 is not affected software. Does that mean that Windows XP SP2 is not affected only with it's default strict security features on like the firewall and DEP, or does that just mean that those fixes were already included in XP SP2, but were just released to the public as separate patches at a later date than when SP2 was released? Another words, will I be just as secure with SP2 even with all the added security features disabled as I was with SP1 + all security hotfixes installed?
