Question about Windows XP Pro licenses

I'm not sure if this might belong in "I Wanna" in hotdeals or not, but I was curious about what my best options are for finding/buying A Windows XP OS CD & License that's inexpensive, and legal; I'm not interested in looking on Ebay, and after seeing a couple of threads in Hotdeals that link to sites that are in Russia and are scams, too.

Being that I'm not in retail, I don't qualify for the "retail" M$ retail resellers program either..what would be some suggestions here?

Again, if this is something better asked/answered as a "I Wanna" in Hotdeals, lock please.

Thanks

Currently, I'm not a student.

I do have a brother who's going to Rice (In Houston) University for his masters, though...I might inquire with him what prices might be for a cd/license down there..

I'd wonder what sort of info the install/activation might ask for when installing it if the cd's one that's offered for $10 at a university (YMMV, I realize) that probably is a (legal) burned copy that's got a school/educators multi-user license agreement...Something like a student ID code/number when calling in to activate it?

I'd wonder which schools/universities in Chicago might offer something like a quite inexpensive license/cd for their students, if not...Always a good excuse to go back to school for a semester or two 🙂

It won't be any different than any other XP pro disc. You'll still have to go thru activation and all that, unlike a corporate disc.
