Question about win2k and xp and hard drives.

I had 2 hard drives that I was using in win2k (they only allowed certain users to access them), was on a server. But when I moved them to a new server WinXp is telling me that access is denied and Im guessing because the user list. Is there any way I can reset it so I can access the drive? I really dont want to lose the data.

add the same usernames on the XP machine.

Open My Computer
Right click on the drive -> Properties
Click the Security Tab
Click Advanced
Add your name to the permissions list with full controll
Remove everyone else
check the "Reset properties on child objects" box
Click "Ok"

Edit: You may need to enable advanced folder security. I think you do this by clicking tools: folder options. Then under the list of options, toward the bottom, there should be a check box that says something to the effect of "Enable simple folder security", uncheck it.

Won't work. Users are given unique identifiers, so permissions are not based on usernames.

You could take ownership of all of the files and folders and hope to god that you didn't have any encryption turned on or you're screwed!
