the resolution depends on what the aspect ratio is.
the resolution of a 1:35 aspect ratio movie is gong to be less than the resolution of a movie with a 1:85 aspect ratio. the actual picture in the 1:85 aspect ratio is bigger than in the 1:35 picture.
if the dvd is anamorphic, then the picture itself has 480 lines. if it is regular letterbox, then the picture and black bars are included in the 480 line count.
animorphic = black bars not counted. or atleast mostly if it really really wide. not that it matters on a regular piss resolution tv which has no resolution to display to begin with. dvd player tosses out extra resolution. on nice monitor or hdtv it gets displayed
