Question about webcam software

err

Platinum Member
Hi,

I have an Intel Webcam running on windows 2000. Unfortunately, the stupid program shipped with the webcam doesn't work on win2k. Is there any other alternatives that work with Intel + win2k ?

I am mainly looking for a software that can :
- Take snapshot
- Record a video
- If possible, broadcast live video

Thanks for any recommendation.

Sure, the best program to use for video capture is VirtualDub it will allow you to compress to extremely good codecs such as DivX

If you simply want to view video on your screen then use AmCAP it will give you the fastest frame rates out of your intel cam.

For setting up a live video server I reccomend Windows Media Encoder 7

All of these programs will take some learning but are the best available.

tomcat.. you're god ! 🙂

I will try all those programs out.. I've played with WME and Real server.. but am looking for something lighter 🙂

Thanks again.

Other suggestions are still welcome

tomcat:

Those two programs are excellent for my request to record a video. I love them both. virtualdub is strong !

What kind of program should I use to take simple and fast snapshot? This is a still snapshot without any movement. It would be nice if I can also use the Intel pc camera button to take the still snapshot.

Any ideas?

Thanks again

what's your capture card ?

If it's an ATI Radeon none of those programs will work because on Orders from microsoft ATI does not include support for VfW even though they can.

Imagine that' a $385Cdn capture card, apparently state of the *cough* art capture card but ATI refuses to support VfW. So in other words Windows Media Encorder, ANY webcam, VirtualDub or any 3rd party capture programs won't work unless it supports Ms-DirectShow. LMAO M$ dictates to others to not support VfW but EVEN M$ can't make software with directshow support.

Microsoft thought that their dictatorship rule for only supporting DirectShow would be included in all capture cards by now but the only companie to follow this braindead approach are the dumbasses at ATI. Now M$ got screwed because if they were to release NetMeeting 4 or Windows Media Encoder 8 NO-ONE would be able to use them except the ATI-Radeon's. They would have a million complaints the next day that their software doesn't work and would be the laughing stock of software companies, but they are smater than that and are not releasing them, if they DO they will have to release VfW support which is contrary to their own orders to video capturing software companies. ATI has been left holding the bag and they are now the Fools of the Video card industry.

So if you want your capture programs to work don't get a Radeon card.

Hi,

This is a simple pc camera , a web cam and I don't believe it needs a capture card. I have none btw.

what I mean by taking snapshot is just to take picture like a digital camera would, but with a much lousier quality. The Intel create and share software have such capability but it doesn't work in win2k.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway 🙂

err, thanks for bringing this to my attention that the create and share doesn't work in win2k, hmm..
are those programs free??

Hi,

The two programs virtualdub and amcap is free. They are excellent for recording short videos through your webcam.

Yes the share and create is not supported by Intel on win2k 🙁

Err

thanks err. i like your name by the way. that's pretty slick.

stupid intel, could make it easy on us. oh well.

thanks again

err: I dont think that there is a way to make the intel stap shot button work in windows 2000, I usually just use the print screen key to capture the video still shot when working with virtualdub and then paste it into an image editor. Let me know if you find anything better.

tomcat .. that's what I use too. I just use alt+prntscreen to capture my image. Kinda annoying if you've used the snapshot button through create and share before. Well I hope I can find a software that can let me click capture on my screen and capture my still image.

Thanks !
