Question about VPNs

I read a recent article from Kaspersky about the benefits of using a VPN and how it makes you more secure.

No I have a VPN subscription through StrongVPN that I only use when I want to access something that is blocked by my ISP but definitely will not use it for my day to day web surfing and what not as the speed is always about 15% of my actual connection speed even though I have tested many VPNs and StrongVPNs was the fastest amongst them.

Now my question is, my StrongVPN subscription is due to expire next month....

1) Anyone has better experience with them than I do perhaps in terms of privacy / protection?

2) Services like Hotspot shield for example, I don't feel they are secure since they bombard you with ads and crap...

So when Kaspersky was recommending using a VPN, which are the ones to consider? Free and paid..?

3) I tried Security Kiss once which is supposed to be a VPN for security proteciton such as what Kaspersky recommended but that VPN is horribly slow you can't use it. so what are the good secure ones then that won'd hurt my speed? or is there none?

They're all going to hurt your speed a bit but IME Private Internet Access is plenty fast. Connecting from Dubai might cause it to be slower though.

berryracer, you have a fast enough computer to run a virtual machine. You can run the vpn connection from within the virtual machine 24/7 and use it for certain things while the host is always directly connected to the internet.

I use ibVPN, but for you based on location I might try hidemyass due to more server choices. A yearly subscription is not that bad and I hear they have a lot of fast servers. The monthly rate is steep, but worth a one month trial run.

edit: for some reason, direct linking to them is not working.

Tor is slow as hell man

Just found this VPNBOOK, free, no registration required, browsing speed is decent

Speed test . net

1.69 MB down 1 MB UP

my actual connection is:

8 MB down / 1 MB up

not bad for a free solution and I wasn't getting any faster speeds with the paid StrongVPN anyway

Interesting. I'll look them over more carefully later. I like that they keep minimal logs. It's ad supported, but that's not a deal breaker.

man that speedtest.net was a crap test as I was able to download files at my full 8 mbps speed

it's very fast and I dont see a single ad

they have 2 choices both are free PPTP and OpenVPN

for OpenVPN u need to install the OpenVPN client first and their certificate to connect

very speed and more secure

This x over 9000. What's the punishment for porn in Dubai? Death by stoning?
no man many people confuse Dubai for Saudi Arabia.

It's not like that and the reason I want a VPN is not for porn or anything. It's just for anonymous surfing noone likes to be tracked online

I use https://www.privatvpn.se/en/

They are a swedish company, but are really good. Thet are running OpenVPN and state that they don't keep logs on any of their servers except for the USA where IP adresses are logged.

Otherwise all their servers in Europe aren't logged at all.

We NEVER produce logs of any data traffic. The only thing we store is your username, password and your e-mail address.

With the exception of our servers in the U.S. where we log IP addresses on incoming connections.
