Question about Voodoo 3 DVD

I know it barely does any acceleration, but I ran it a while ago using Xing DVD player, and it had these ugly folds in the screen.

it's hard to describe, but it's as if the screen was folded in several places horizontally by one pixel, so you can see when edges go through the "fold", you get a jagged edge where the fold is.

I was told by someone that this is normal for Voodoo 3's, but I'd much rather be able to run Software DVD right now then Hardware, becuase I don't have to worry too much about compatability. (found out it's the Matrix that causes most problems when playing DVD's}.

I tried some more playing while downloading (my modem shares an IRQ with the H+ card), and it seemed to work for Enemy of the State fine.. though when I played the Matrix I got an instant BSOD (for some reason with that movie, I have to insert another movie, play a little bit of it, and then put in the matrix to get the Matrix to work). I also tried playing Independance Day while connected, and it worked fine, till the computer just locked up (no BSOD, just a lock). I'm going to test this more..

No it's not common for Voodoo3's...mine plays it fine. I have used PowerDVD, WinDVD, and ATI DVD (cinemaster). Xing DVD sucks - I have used it...nothing compared to the others I listed.

Sorry to say but mine plays fine too. The only time I had any problems was when I was using a PII-233, which I doubt you are doing right now.

Yeah, Xing is trash. Almost as bad as Zoran. Voodoo has no acceleration whatsover, but PowerDVD or one of the other top three as mentioned by kami should fix you up.

BUMP! I'm not done yet! I still need to know if I can just input a registration code in PowerDVD, or do I have to register through PowerDVD and then download a new program..
