question about vista ultimate w/ laptop licensing

Acer's recovery disk includes all the crap that comes w/ the system. I have a vista disk that i would like to just run and input the cdkey located on the back of the laptop. Is it possible to do this, or is the only way i can reinstall vista is by using the acer recovery disk?
 
It sure is!

You might fail automatic activation, so you'll have to call a 1-800 number and talk to someone to get it manually activated. It will take only a few minutes.

Vista is pretty good at detecting/finding/installing all the right drivers for your machine but you might want to set aside the NIC driver for it from Acer and stick it on a USB memory key in case you can't get online once it's installed.

Just enter the key located on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop and you're all set.
