Question about Vista before I open it

The guys at Circuit City couldn't give me a yes or no answer. I have XP Pro(legit key) installed, once I upgrade can I reinstall Vista on the same machine if I need to reformat? I was gonna go with Ultimate but the brochure showed Home premium to have everything except some kind of encryption, business networking and remote desktop. My main concern was media Center which this has.
