Well I have some extra $ and I think I might pick up a capture card. I mainly want to use it to capture some footage of me playing xbox footage. However I have a question as to how this is actually done.

My Xbox is hooked up component cables to my DLP right now. My TV also has a video out on it, via a composite output. Can I just play my xbox (hooked to my TV via component cables) and run the video out from my TV to the capture card (via the composite cable) and then capture me playing xbox on my TV?

Or will I have to hookup my xbox to my PC, then run it to my TV, THEN capture it? Or kind of "splice" the video out put from the xbox to both the TV and PC at the same time? But if I do that, I will have to have it hooked via composite cables to my TV, which I don't really wanna do.

Link to my TV if you need specs.

Can't you connect the xbox to the composite on the capture card and play on the monitor and capture at the same time?

TV capture cards do what you need.

VIVO enabled cards also do this.

Play xbox through capturecard. Output DVI->Component from your normal graphcs card to your TV.

I must unfortunately agree with the "wrong forum" nazi's. Video is well traffic-ed and you will get more helpful responses there.

Do you both a composite and S-Video out? If so, connect the S-Video to the capture card and the composite video to the TV.
