Question about USPS Insurance

My dad's computer died two weeks ago. He lives in Florida and I live in Louisiana. Anyway, instead of getting it fixed locally, he sends it to me via USPS. I fix it and send it back. He said that when he opened the box, it looked like someone played football with it. The case is all jacked up. The computer does run.

My question is this: would it do any good to file an insurance claim on this? I insured it for $500, packed it well, and it was labeled as fragile.

I wish he knew someone there that could do computer work so this sh!t doesn't happen again...

If the shipping box shows damage, file a claim - good chance that it will succeed.

Without a damaged box, it becomes questionable.

Don't use the USPS. Use FedEx Ground.

I've nothing against the USPS at all. In fact, I love it. But it'll cost you much less to ship (and insure) it by FedEx Ground... and you get to track it as it moves across the country. :D

That's generally the case for anything over 3lbs (as long as you can wait up to a week).

Sorry to hear about your mangled PC. My mom sent me some insured stuff by USPS a few years ago and it never showed up. After 90 days they paid her.

The stuff then showed up a month later with no explanation.

I was going to do it via FedEx, but went USPS since It was a block from work. My dad sent it by mail to me and it got here fine.

I'll ask him if there is box damage.

Just a note, don't ever put "fragile" on a box, no matter what. That's just the equivalent of saying "Just try and destroy me". I'm serious.

If you're sending big packages, go with UPS/FedEx. If they are smaller, then go with USPS. I have to admit, the tracking system for USPS is garbage.
