Question about using Drive Image or Ghost (also Q about Norton virtual CD)

When using either of those imaging programs, do you HAVE to restore the image from a physically different HDD, or can you restore from a partition on the same HDD?

I'm wondering because I'm planning doing this:

2 - 30GB HDDs in RAID0
Then 2 partitions, one for system and apps, and the other one for files (pictures, mp3s, etc...)
I'd then create the image of the clean install of the 1st partition (with OS and Drivers only) on the 2nd partition, then re-image whenever I needed to.

Also, what's the virtual CD program from Norton (where you can create a virtual CD-ROM on your HDD). How is it done? Do you have to set aside more partitions for each CD you want to image or does it create them on its own? Does this program work well?

Can image to/restore from diff partition on same drive, but it'll be twice twice as slow, cuz the same drive must read & write. Also, if ur drive dies, you'll lose the image on the (dead) drive. Best to use a separate drive.

This may also help.

Thanks for the link, I found the first part of what I was looking for 🙂

Now I need to find out about the virtual CD program, it gets to be a real pain having to swap cds all the time...that and having to hear the drive take off like a mini-jet....
