Question about using a windows keyboard on a mac

I have a USB Windows keyboard and I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts using Autohotkey. My understanding is that simply plugging in the keyboard into a Mac would reassign certain keys like backspace to delete. Is there a Mac utility (built-in or not) that would allow for advanced reassignments to mimic my Windows setup? For example, could I have backspace be equivalent to a backspace?
