Hi all,

I have an older mobo (Epox 8k7a) that does not have USB2.0 support. Last night I hooked up a USB2.0 4 port hub and everything worked fine, but I gat a message that said Hi Speed USB2.0 may be achieved with the addition of a controller card? My question is - does adding a PCI Hi Speed USB2.0 Controller Card allow the full 480Mbs on a system that previously was not compatible? If so, whats a good card (or brand) to get?

Thanks!!!

What he said.

Aisde: I found it interesting, the last times I went to BB and CC, they had all the USB and FW cards such that you could either (a) see the card, or (b) the pic on the box showed the chipset clearly. If time ins't as issue, though, ZFF or Newegg aught to be able to save you $5-15 on a card.

Just making sure you understand how it works since from reading your question I am thinking you might not completely understand. To clarify, the USB 2.0 controller card you buy will have it's own set of ports on the card. It will seat into an available PCI slot and usually give you 2-4 ports through the add-in card slots from the back of your computer. Yes, you will get the full capability of USB2.0 by adding this upgrade, but of course your existing USB connectors will all still be USB 1 speeds while the addon ports will be USB 2 (also backwards compatible to USB 1 devices). Dont mean to offend, just making sure we understood at what level you were asking that question...

Thanks to all for your responses!

Mickey21 - Absolutely no offense taken. I was thinking that was the case, and now I am 100% sure it is!
