Question about USB ports

Hi all,

I finally plugged my MS internet keyboard pro to my usb port instead of the keyboard port to gain access to the 2 extra usb ports in the back and the Logitech rumble pad won't work.

I installed and uninstalled the drivers. Nothing. So finally, I decided to plug it into the back of the computer on the remaining usb and voila, it worked.

which brings me to my point, I have another usb device coming, the mx700 that I want to install but don't have a spare usb port in the back of the computer and may have to use the keyboard one and am worried it won't work. Any thoughts????

also, I am wondering what my other options are????

The rumble pad probably did not work because it required a self-powered USB port. The ones on your KB are bus-powered. A mouse should work fine though, it does for me.

Thanks for the reply.

I kinda suspected that. 🙁

I am worried about the power needed for the mx700 wireless mouse. It says the only low powered devices(less than 100mA) can be used.

Thoughts????

I can't imagine any mouse using more than 100mA.

why in the HELL would you want to use usb over ps/2 ?

if you've got dedicated ports, use 'em

Because the PS/2 port wasn't giving me any probs. Know the old saying" If it ain't broke, don't fix it". 😉

Because my desktop USB hub creates far less cable mess behind the machine. Because USB mice have a smoother feel due to higher polling rate. Because I haven't used a parallel, floppy, serial, or PS/2 device in year. Progress.

I have a Logitech keyboard with integrated USB hub. It has 2 connectors at the end of the cable one PS/2 and one USB. if both are plugged in the keyboard runs on PS/2 and I can then use the usb Hub for my mouse, especially since this keyboard has an excess mouse cable storage area. In the end that means only 1 cable on my desk for mouse and keyboard and I don't have to go under the table for connecting my joypad.
