Question about UPS Backup Power

What would I have to buy to be able to power a 30watt light bulb continuously 24/7 and for 15 hours during a blackout? I need to buy something that will be plugged into the wall for charging at all times, as well as being able to run a 30watt light bulb 24/7 while being charged.

Thanks

30 Watt x 15h = 450Wh Battery.
30W should be readily provided by anything in that range.

Give yourself a little buffer with a 510W model

You can not run a 30W light bulb on that for 15 hours. There's going to be no affordable UPS that's going to do what the OP wants. To run a 30W load for 15 hours you're going to need a UPS where you can extend the batteries.

The 510W UPS you linked has a 12V/8.5Ah battery (typical for consumer grade UPS) that converts to about 102Wh. Like _Rick_ mentioned to run 30 Watt device for 15 hours you'd need a 450Wh battery which is far less then this UPS provides.

This UPS should power a 30W light bulb for approximately 3.5 hrs assuming 100% efficiency on the UPS which is impossible. More realistic run time would be 2 hours. Remember W (Watts) is not the same as Wh (Watt hours).

Quite right.

The best way to do what you want is to get and keep charged a sealed 12V deep cycle battery and use a 12V LED bulb or a small inverter.

Get a led light bulb that has similar output.. that might extend your running time.. just fyi, some ups can't mute the stupid beep when its on battery, dont know if you want to hear it for 10 hours

The void-your-warranty method: Open UPS, desolder speaker. :)

And I suppose it can be a bit dangerous, with a lead-acid battery sitting in there, waiting to dump its charge through an inverter.
