Question about Upgrading from a TBird 1000Mhz to a 1800 XP.

I have a Asus A7V133, revision 1.05. I will also upgrade to the latest bios.

My question is about performance. What does the XP 1800+ 1.53GHz actually mean? Is it a jump of 530 Mhz from my previous chip or is it higher?

Also, am I going to see a major increase in speed in Windows XP and my overall computer performance? Lastly, is it worth the extra $20 to go to the 1900 XP instead?

Thanks.

I'm about to hop into bed, But i'll give a quick understanding (of at least, what i understand).

the 1800 is the PR rating (not the actually MHZ, the actual speed of 1800 is 1.533). But because of the arcitecture of the XP (or some fancy way they manage to make the processor run faster), every 70 (or so) MHZ increments acts as if it was 100 MHZ compared to a normal Athlon.

So pretty much think of it as, 800 more mhz.

I'm pretty sure this is correct, but someone correct me if i'm wrong.

First off, you processor is clocked at 1.53ghz. Thank AMD for the confusion with that one. It is 530mhz faster than your existing chip. Plus it is an XP which has some design improvements that should speed things up a bit. You should feel a difference there.

The 1900 is only 70mhz more than the 1800. It is clocked at 1.6 ghz. I doubt that you will notice a difference going from the 1800 to the 1900. Save the money or buy a better heatsink like the AX-7 by thermalright.
