Hello,

I would like to upgrade Firefox from .8 to .9 and mozilla.org states to ininstall the previous version first.

Will I lose my bookmarks/history/passwords, etc -- or will they be there when I upgrade?

If I remember right, yes (they will be there).....but I would export your bookmarks just to be safe...

if you save your profile settings (bookmark, pref.js, etc) in a directory other than your mozilla installation directory (eg: you save them in c:\document and settings\ instead of c:\program files\mozilla.org), your settings will be safe and sound.

if you save your profile settings in the same directory as your installation directory, then they will be deleted.

but yeah, to be safe, just do a backup of the files before you do un/re-install

basically you can go to c:\document and settings\<your username>\application data\mozilla\profiles\<your username>\<some random stuffs>\

your profile will be in the file called prefs.js
your bookmark will be in the file called bookmarks.html

i'm not too sure about history and password, but i think it should be one of the files in there...

but you can just do a backup of the whole directory and put it back later on if the files are missing after you do an uninstall. i'm sure firefox will leave those files alone, though... but, just in case
