I have an ASUS A7A-133 PA (SDRAM based) with the Ali Magik1 chipset on it and lately i discovered that a new bios is out that enables my motherboard to support processors up to AthlonXP 2100+. That is great news for me because it boosts my motherboard's upgradeablility a lot. But... will it work??? I have never heard before AthlonXP processors working on a mobo with SDRAM on it... should i uprgade the bios or not?? And with what way? By Dos mode or by the ASUS Update utility???

Thanks guys

I'm not sure where you have heard about the XP/SDRAM issue. I am currently running an XP 1800+ unlocked to an XP1900 on a MSI K7T Turbo with 512 Meg (2x256) Crucial PC133 CAS2 DIMMs. No PC1600 or PC2100, or DDR, or anything new. Just good old SDRAM.

So, if your new BIOS will correctly identify the stepping codes and required multipliers for the XP, then go for it.....

OK thanks guys. I updated my bios succesfully through DOS and AFLASH and everything went well or better i should say. Even some problems with my ISDN modem are solved. And no i really didnt know that AthlonXP and SDRAM can work together. With all this hearing about DDR RAM... i didnt know that SDRAM can work too...

Thanks anyway
